I know that life can feel overwhelming at times, and although friends and family are great at offering support, sometimes it feels easier to talk to someone who doesn't know you. Throughout our work together, I will stay unbiased and focus on your experience of what's been happening to you and around you to help you work through any difficult thoughts and feelings.
When we work together, we'll think about how your past experiences have affected who you are now, with a particular focus on the most influential relationships in your life. These can have so much impact on our behaviour and thought patterns that just pausing to think about them can bring us a new understanding of our problems. This is often a new experience for people I work with, as we don't usually pay much attention to the way we think or behave - those things are just what we do, aren't they?
Whatever you’re finding difficult - whether that’s anxiety, depression, low self-esteem or family issues - we'll explore it together. As you come to understand yourself better, you'll find your mental health improves as well as your self-confidence and your relationships with the people around you. Therapy will give you the time and space to talk about whatever you want or need to - without any judgement from me. I will always support you, offering you empathy and understanding but will challenge you gently and compassionately, too, to help bring about the changes you’re looking for.
You might only need a few sessions to feel the benefit, but you can continue for as long you wish. Talking therapy often feels best in person, but we can hold sessions by phone or video call if it's more convenient or if leaving the house feels too much. If you have mobility issues or a young baby to care for, remote sessions make therapy much more accessible. Please feel free to ask me for what you need and I promise I'll try my best to accommodate your preferences.
However we do it, you will always have a regular, confidential space to talk through your difficulties and begin to make sense of what’s behind them. Each 50 minute session will be focused entirely on you and there will be no other distraction or interruption.
If you choose to meet me in person, our sessions will be in my comfortable, quiet therapy room on Nelson Street in Southend’s conservation area (SS1). The private, comforting setting creates a safe and calming atmosphere conducive to opening up and exploring difficult thoughts and emotions. There is on street parking immediately outside and Southend Central is only 2 minutes’ walk away. It is also on the number 17 bus route.
If speaking via video call or phone means that therapy fits more easily into your working day - or your life in general - let me know and we can arrange that.
